Packaging Operations and Innovation Co-Op 

 
   
   

 

This position offers an exciting opportunity to support the Technical Packaging Engineering team through packaging material evaluations, process assessments, and scientific studies that support packaging development and manufacturing operations. The role focuses on executing testing protocols, supporting packaging innovation initiatives, conducting distribution studies, and contributing to projects related to business protection, maintenance, and design renovations. The successful candidate will work closely with both the Technical Packaging Engineering Center of Excellence and site packaging engineering teams to evaluate packaging performance, analyze results, support change management activities, and assist in the delivery of packaging solutions that meet quality and business requirements. This hands-on position provides valuable experience in packaging development, manufacturing support, and cross-functional project execution.

 

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

 

The primary responsibilities of this role are to:

 

  • Support pipeline innovations, business protection and maintenance initiatives, and design renovation projects;
  • Assist in the development of primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging solutions;
  • Execute testing protocols authored by full-time packaging engineers;
  • Author and execute testing protocols independently as assigned;
  • Partner with packaging operations personnel to ensure protocols are understood, followed, and completed successfully;
  • Collect required samples and coordinate submission to appropriate laboratories for testing and evaluation;
  • Analyze study and test results and provide recommendations to support packaging decisions;
  • Support the execution of distribution studies and packaging performance evaluations;
  • Assist with packaging development activities and technical packaging engineering projects;
  • Serve as a contributor to cross-functional project teams and support change management processes;
  • Coordinate the review and approval of packaging component drawings and specifications;
  • Support component testing, qualification activities, package testing, and manufacturing line trials;
  • Assist with bill of materials development and third-party process qualifications;
  • Facilitate the resolution of packaging-related challenges throughout the development process;
  • Utilize key tools and processes including Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems and barcode verification processes;
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to deliver project objectives on time and in full;
  • Support change management and label control activities to ensure timely execution of packaging changes;
  • Collect and analyze packaging component and sustainability data;
  • Manage assigned packaging development projects independently as experience and proficiency grow throughout the assignment.

 

WHO YOU ARE

 

Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

 

Required:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • High degree of personal initiative and self-motivation;
  • Excellent organization and planning skills;
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team;
  • Ability to work successfully in a diverse and collaborative environment.

 

Preferred:

 

  • Prior packaging experience;
  • Previous co-op experience;
  • Experience with RS Cad, TOPS, CAPE, MiniTab, SolidWorks, or similar engineering software.

 

Employees can expect to be paid a salary of approximately between $20.75 to $58.50. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant).  Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc..  This salary (or salary range) is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
